A discussion on the Sheikh, the tribe, and the family in the town of Al-Shuhayl
The Poet Abu Yazan al-Furati and his guest Khaled al-Layli, through the medium of informal discussion and poetry, share their insights and views on the town and tribal roots of Al-Shuhayl, located along the Euphrates River Valley in Syria.
Al-Shuhayl is one of the most important areas where the Aqeedat tribe has been based for decades, in the rural areas of Deir ez-Zor, especially in the eastern and northern regions.
Al-Shuhayl is not a large settlement in terms of demography or geography – it has a population of approximately 20,000 (a precise census is unavailable). However, it is, and has been for a very long time, a place (and a people) well known throughout the province of Deir ez-Zor.
